Ep 12: “Hurt People, Hurt People” Finding Worthiness in my Thirties
She is worthy of all that is good in this world; so are you.
In Episode 12, we hear from Emily Erbs Schweitzer, a dear friend of mine for over two decades. Emily is a dedicated wife, a loving dog mom, a disciplined and energetic CG trainer, a devoted sister, and someone who will be by your side the moment before you need her. In this episode she shares her story of finding her true worth. We hear the sorrowful journey she experienced to get there and all the intimate details in between. Why someone has to endure all she has to come to a place of healing and self-love that she thankfully now experiences, is beyond me. It’s unfair. It’s aggravating.
But it’s her story. From the age of 14 on, she ran towards drugs and alcohol to hide from the pain of abandonment & loneliness. She grew up not knowing her biological dad, her mom married when she was 4 and they had three sons who, in her eyes, were treated with more importance. It lead to the belief that she was unworthy and unlovable. Adding to the pain, while studying abroad in college her mother was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumor which led to more rage and turned her one bottle a night into two.
After many poor decisions and losing her mother, a friend convinces her to move to Austin, Texas where she sobers up. But only momentarily. The night she returns to drinking is a night that will forever haunt her.
Insert Jesus. The least expected solution became her saving grace.

Listen as she shares this story in all its intimacy, transparency, and vulnerability. As her friend, all I wanted to do as she spoke was to hold her. To share this takes incredible courage but its her mission to help others through a similar journey. There is a positive ending. There’s a gift from God; a husband, a wedding, a life ahead of her, and finally an internal knowing that she believed she’d never feel: She is worthy; of all that is good in this world and so are you.
Thank you Emily; for your heart, your story, and your bubbly determination to better the lives of those around you. I am honored to share your story.
