EP 28: Rediscovering Yourself After Loss with Becky Allen
In Episode 28, we hear from creator and founder of Win The Day Pro, Becky Allen on a topic very important to me: self-discovery. Continuously learning who we are is a vital component for a life filled with genuine happiness, peace and joy. For Becky, she’d already had that as a mom and a wife but after losing her husband and other half in her early thirties to cancer, she had to rediscover who she is.
If I can tell you one thing about Becky it’s that she’s gifted. You’ll hear what I mean in this episode. Becky is a gifted writer, podcaster, mother of 10 year-old Dawson & 6 year-old Lainey, taco enthusiast, an Enneagram One, and since March of 2018, a widow.
A widow; a way in which she never expected to be described so early in life. She and Daryn grew up together, married after college, and had two beautiful babies. They’d just built their dream house, were working from home together and in Becky’s words described her life as a mother and wife as the “pinch me” type of life.
Then in January of 2017, fitness enthusiast, healthy-as-can-be Daryn found out he had stage 4 testicular cancer and it had spread throughout his entire body.
They did every treatment they could but sadly, the cancer was stronger. In March of 2018, Becky and their kids said goodbye to their larger than life father and dad. Just like that, their life drastically changed forever. From mother and wife… to mother and widow.
What do you do? How do you grieve? Can you find joy? Are you allowed to be happy? How do you be mom and dad? What do you do for work when your business was driven by your partner who just passed? How do you support a loved one who’s just experience great loss?
In this episode, Becky shares how she rediscovered herself after losing Daryn. If you have lost a spouse or know someone who has, this one is for you. She’s full of love, grace, perseverance, and transparency. I just have so much respect for this incredible soul. Thank you Becky, for always getting back up, no matter how hard life hits you down, for sharing your story to encourage others to keep going.
