EP 30: Co-parenting with Grace after Divorce with Jeff Rizer

In Episode 30 we hear from Jeff Rizer who is the Founder of the Rizing Up Brand and The Rizing Up Mentality. He is also a father, an entrepreneur, an encourager, a truth speaker, and a divorcé who’s successfully coparenting with selfless grace & patience.

In today’s episode, we talk all about it. I have a feeling many will be able to relate to his story: After twenty years of dating and marriage with his partner, he no longer felt the excitement. No longer was he present when he was in her presence. No longer was he excited to come home. After months and months of contemplation as to what that meant, he made the hard decision to walk away.

Walking away from a marriage that has emotionally expired past is beyond difficult. Add two boys to the equation and we enter into a realm I pray I never have to personally step foot in.

However, fortunately or unfortunately this is a reality so many people are facing today. The amount of shame and guilt around divorce, what it does to children in the relationship, and how it’s to be navigated is unfair. Everyone handles it as best they can in the moment; sometimes that looks quite troubling and sometimes it flows in a positive direction.

Jeff’s experience with divorce and co-parenting certainly leans toward a positive one. Because of that, he’s humbly accepted my invitation to share his story and how he and his ex-wife have navigated this uninvited path in hopes that it’ll encourage others.

Today, Jeff discusses the transition from being divorced and angry and pointing the finger, while always worrying about the future, to finally taking ownership and embracing a concept called Amor Fati. Amor Fati encourages you to embrace the process and to understand that everything we go through is absolutely necessary. It wasn’t until he started embracing this concept that he truly started to live life and embrace each moment for what it was.
